About Us

My photo
We are both retired. Built a house near a beach in Mexico to spend the winter away from the cold and snow. Have another home in Washington on the Pend Oreille River where we spend the summer. We divide our time between the two homes.

Portico

Well where to begin, I'm behind in posting.

With the rain coming into the house we decided to make some changes to the drains.  They were set lower and longer.  The old drains had the water hitting the living room windows.  Again, some jack hammering and additional plastering.
On the roof we put in a drain pipe and longer pipes too.

We also decided to put in a portico to keep the rain from reaching the windows and doors.  It was in the plans, but we were hoping to do it at a later date.  But, no rain into the house would be nice.

Here they are digging the footings for the portico.  Then cementing in the castillos.

They built the framework for the dalas in the adjoing lot.

They forgot a level in the dala.

We had it plastered with the levels showing as a lark.  It definitely is a conversation piece.
More jack hammering to get the beams and tile attached to the house.

Here, however, they cut the gas line to the upstairs and cut into the electric line.

A repair was in order.

We also had to protect the upstairs windows as rain came in those also.

Attaching the beams.

Stainless steel rods are hammered into the beams to the dala.  Cut to length needed.

This gives you an idea of how the portico with go around the house.

Notice the chair they sit on to hammer the rods and put in the braces.

The delivery of tile.  More tile were placed on the side of the house, for ease of hauling to where they are needed.
