About Us

My photo
We are both retired. Built a house near a beach in Mexico to spend the winter away from the cold and snow. Have another home in Washington on the Pend Oreille River where we spend the summer. We divide our time between the two homes.

Hurricane Vance, Rain and Damage

Well we had one storm with tons of rain and then a week later Hurricane Vance came thru.  While we only saw the tail end there was still lots of rain and wind.  This was the surf after the storm.

You could see a distinct line where water was stirred up.

The rivers were running high and full of mud, which is where the mud in the ocean came from.

Several days later there was still some clean-up to do.  This is on the way to Melaque and downtown Melaque.  Here in Perula there were several roads with standing rain.  Made for a very muddy drive, and still some of the intersections have water.

Rain at the house.

Hwy 200, the main road from Puerto Vallarta down the coast.  About a week after the storm the bridge in Zapata collapsed!  We were lucky we had been to Manzanillo that day.  We were driving in the dark and pouring down rain.  As we can figure, it collapsed about 15 min after we crossed.  No traffic could get thru for 2 days, a long detour.

The rain hit us and we were desperately trying to close all the windows.  With the wind it took the two of use to push the windows closed and the rain was cascading down the walls, on the inside.  Once again we had a flood in the house.  The wind took out several tiles on the patio and slammed the downstairs door so hard it cracked the hurricane proof glass!

The rain got into what Tom calls the "horn" of our satellite.  He tried to dry it out and clean it up, but we lost internet.  He has ordered parts and a friend who has a house here in Perula is very nice to bring it down when he comes.  We couldn't seem to get anyone to ship to Mexico.  Now we shall hope the parts are the ones we need to resurrect the system.  Tom has a hotspot on his phone we were trying to use, but for some reason the signal strength is poor.  So we tried a Hotspot on my phone.  Seems to work!  We both have identical phones, so who knows the why.  At least we can communicate again.
